Carpeted stairs trap dust, wear out in the middle, and date a home fast. Converting them to clean wood treads with painted risers is one of the most requested upgrades we do right now — and one of the highest-impact changes for the cost. We remove the old carpet and rebuild the stepping surface in the material that fits your home best.

One solid piece of real wood that can be shaped, sanded, and refinished. Built to handle decades of traffic with a timeless, upscale finish. Curved staircases always use hardwood — it can be templated and custom-shaped to follow the curve.
Excellent for an exact match to your floors, and very resistant to scratches, dents, and pet wear. A great low-maintenance option when consistent appearance is the priority.
The short version: choose hardwood for luxury look and longevity, or LVP/laminate for easy maintenance and a perfect match to your floors.
Already bought LVP or laminate flooring? You can often use it on your stairs — as long as your flooring line offers a stair-nosing piece. We use a flush stair nose wherever it's available for the most solid, seamless finish. If your line doesn't make a matching nose, solid hardwood treads are the better long-term choice, and we'll tell you straight at the consultation.

Can you put wood treads over my existing carpeted stairs?
We remove the carpet and pad first, then install finished treads and risers onto the existing stair structure. No layout changes needed.
Hardwood or LVP/laminate — which should I choose?
Hardwood gives a high-end, refinishable, long-term look; LVP/laminate is lower-maintenance and matches your floors exactly. Curved staircases always use hardwood. We'll help you decide at the consultation.
I already bought LVP or laminate flooring — can you use it on my stairs?
Often yes, as long as your flooring line offers a stair-nosing piece. We prefer a flush stair nose for the most solid, seamless finish. If no matching nose exists, hardwood treads are the better choice.
Do the new stairs have to match my floors?
They don't have to, but if an exact match matters to you, color-matched LVP/laminate makes it easy. Most hardwood homeowners pick a stain that complements their floors.
Can I update the railing at the same time?
Yes — many carpet-to-wood projects are a great moment to also swap to iron balusters or refinish the handrail, since the stairs are already being worked on.
What does replacing carpet stairs with wood cost?
It depends on the number of steps and your material choice. Send a few photos and we'll reply with an honest price range — no in-home visit required to start.
